Thundering gains the day with stamina laden performance
Shane said she was never going but she has won with her ears pricked. When she turned in he said she went one way and then the other but once the penny drops with her she might be ok,. She is tough and will probably end up being a 1m4f filly. I don't know the strength of the race but she toughed it out with her ears pricked. The other filly (fourth placed Blackcatblackitten) ran on well too and they actually ran together the last day too and finished about the same distance apart. They are two nice fillies going forwards.
Njord makes great start for new connections
All's well that ends well for Maxwell
I started out my career as an apprentice but got heavy and went jumping almost straightaway but I'm good and level at around nine stone now and it is easy to keep that weight during the summer. Riding in the 'ten winners or less' races at Dundalk last winter got me going and it just kept rolling into the summer and it has worked out. I'm not rushing off anywhere fancy for the winter and there are plenty jumpers to ride and will continue to mix it for as long as I can. he works well at home but got lost in his maidens and it was his first handicap today and the cheek-pieces helped him an awful lot today. He loves that ground, he made hard work through the race but finished it out well and hopefully will improve for it.
Vocatus sheds maiden tag in style - at 15th attempt
The two lads went hard in front and he dropped in and sat third and he said they were always going to come back to him,. It is nice to get his maiden tag out of the way, he has been running some very good races and has been trying hard but has just been running into ones. He minds himself really well and looks like he didn't have a race there. He got the best turned out and everything and it is great to be finishing off the year and hopefully we can end the year as well as we started!
Slattery moves two winners clear in Apprentice Jockeys' Championship
Jazz Lady gets it done at Ballybrit again
She obviously likes the track having won here last month and did it nicely. I didn't get to see it all as I was at the start helping her but she jumped well,. She was in good form coming here. Maybe the drop back to seven furlongs didn't suit and she was slowly away at Limerick. She was a lot sharper today and when horses handle this unique track it is a big plus. I go to the start early with her and try to keep her as relaxed as I can and get her loaded last as she is a bit of a worrier. She will go out for a break now. . I'm on the lookout for some more horses and maybe this might get me more. It would be nice to have a few for Dundalk for the winter even though it is a bit far away.
A Few Bob Short paying his way nicely
He deserved all his wins as he was hitting the crossbar last year,. He is tough but he surprised me today as I thought the draw, ground and the weight were all gone against him. When the weights went up there was no horse rated 65 and he ended up being the top one in it from 59. He keeps surprising us and I want to go to Dundalk now although the owners are not in love with the place as he came back jarred from there a few times last year. However I think the new surface should change things and help prevent that from happening now.
