McAuley strikes again in the claimer with Mischief Star
I’d say his stamina was just on the edge, he probably wouldn’t stay that trip in a handicap. He wasn’t particularly looking to be in front but Shane found himself there and it worked out. He’s fully genuine and hardy. It’s grand to get it. We’ve had seven seconds in the last two weeks so it was starting to get a fraction frustrating, but he’s a grand horse for that grade and that’s three claimers he’s won for us now. Dundalk is my gig for the winter but he blatantly didn’t handle the surface when we tried him there.

Heather Bear completes a hat-trick for the Slatterys
The race suited her more than the track or the trip. She will want a mile and a half with a cut in the ground. That ground is lovely out there, there’s a cut in it, but I was just a bit wary today around a sharp track like this. A big galloping track will suit her better. She’s actually getting faster in her last few pieces of work. Ronan sadly couldn’t be here, he’s away on business. She’ll hardly go to Galway but we’ll keep tipping away with her and she’ll keep improving. She’s the type that just does enough and is by a good sire, too, in Kodi Bear.
Course specialist Takeachancejimmy again lands feature
That’s three years on the trot he’s got money in this race so I’m delighted. We felt he was coming back to himself. They went a good gallop and it’s taking a bit of getting on that ground this evening. It suits him when they go hard and then he’s able to come at them late, so it all worked out. This place suits him. They tend to go hard into the first turn and he can come at them late down the hill. And that race never has a huge amount of runners which means you’re never too far away, even when you’re at the back. He won’t go to Galway, he hates the place. We come west for this!
Beer With The Boys a popular order at Ballinrobe
He’s been a wee bit unlucky. He was second twice and he runs his race every day. He’s a real warrior. Young Dylan is something else and got him across from stall 16 to lead. He’s out in a league of his own. We’ll head to Galway now. He can gallop them off their feet, that’s the way he runs, and the hill there will suit him to a tee.
