McConnell registers 60th winner this year
I'm not sure if I was the first Irish guy to use Kieran in England and he rode for me at the November meeting last year in Cheltenham. I watched him in the UK and he has a good brain and is a really good horseman. There was a gap in the market here and he has come over and he is making the most of it. I see all the good lads are using him - Gordon (Elliott) and Gavin (Cromwell), he is very good value and won't have the 5lb for long more.
Change of gear for retiring Smyth
training is a fun exercise and I'll be retiring very shortly. I don't want to do it anymore, I'm tired. I'm 85 and I'll be 86 shortly. I'm 40 years in this game, but it is only a fun exercise. It is not my living, I repair gearboxes for a living. It has always given me a kick - I don't drink or smoke, I have four horses and I live for them, that's all I do. It is hard to give up anything and I drove stock cars in the championship of the world three times. I was there for 25 years too.

Consecutive wins for Appian Way
Clonbury Bridge to mix and match after winning over fences
He was a nice little horse and he got a hard fall in his first beginners' (chase) at Fairyhouse. He lost his way a bit. We got his wind and that done and he seems to have come back. He was a nice hurdle horse, so I'm delighted and we will probably mix it with hurdling too. He's probably a horse where the bigger fences might not suit him. He's not over big. We'll see what's around and what he gets, but we'll definitely look at the hurdles as well.
