Purple Mountain another for team Mullins
Patrick was very positive on Purple Mountain albeit they were a bit lucky over the last where Gamin Original looked to have a winning chance - both horses made mistakes at the last. Mee Equestrian' normally like to run west of the Shannon so we'll look to the October meeting for Purple Mountain, and maybe Listowel in September. Four of her family have now won at the festival in Galway. We changed tactics with Gamin Original and it seemed to work so hopefully it'll be more of the same. It is the first time he has shown us on the track what he's shown us at home and at this stage of his career he'll keep going as a winter horse.
Quick double for Mee as Star gets up in final strides
He is lazy and needs stoking up. Conor gave him a brilliant ride because he was off it a long way out and I'm lucky to get him after the other chap (Jordan Gainford) got hurt. He needs further and needs daylight because he is a typical flat horse who never jumps as well as a national hunt horse. I think he wants two and a half miles and its great to get a winner for these people (Mees) on the day. We have nothing planned, I don't think the handicapper can be over hard on him and he wasn't over hard on him the last day. It's great to get a winner in Galway, I always say one winner does the job.
O'Regan 'at his best' as Arcadian lands valuable prize
We were disappointed not to get into the Galway Hurdle (second reserve) so it was great to win today and he has only been out of the frame twice in fourteen runs. He has been a lucky horse for us. Denis was at his best there. They went a bit steady early on but a good run two miles is his job. He'll go up a bit for that again and there's always the chasing route and also the flat route. There's a two-mile flat handicap for him in York but is 18 days away so might come too soon. He'll mix it and has his job done.
McNamara doubles-up on Jazzaway in the feature
I told the owner she wasn't going to run this week as she was lame the other day, but whatever happened, 24 hours later, she seemed fine and then she comes out and does this. It was minor but at the time it looked major, especially for Galway week and she also lost a shoe today. She is brave and has now won a handicap in Punchestown and comes here, going out in trip, and wins another handicap. There wasn't much else for her after Punchestown but if you want to have a go at big prizemoney, you've got to do that. Conor gave her a great ride and his 3lbs (claim) obviously counted. She has a lovely pedigree, is a sister to Briar Hill and I don't think we'll run her back too soon. We'll see where the next big prize money race is and I don't know if she'll go jumping fences or not. We're very happy with what she's done and she has done more than we ever thought she would.
Bornand continues Mullins domination
He disappointed me over hurdles on the homework he does so maybe chasing might be his game. Maybe ground is a factor too and he looks a lovely prospect for chasing. Paul was happy enough how he was going when the other horse fell. Paul is good at the moment (following an earlier fall) but will probably be sore tomorrow.
Battleoverdoyen gets back on track
I'm so happy because he just lost his way a bit but really enjoyed today. He jumped like a buck and travelled well and I think he liked the space. He battled today, which he hasn't done recently and that could be the turning point again.
