Sharinay gets Halford and Collins off the mark for season
Drinks on Crawley as Karlsberg justifies strong support
When she is on song she is a good mare but her antics before the race were a concern as she didn't want to leave the parade ring and after she won, didn't want to go back to the parade. Things weren't happening for her towards the end of last year so we left her off. She is a big strong mare, soft ground is her thing and I keep saying that Hugh (Horgan) can ride and he claimed 5lb.
Thunder adds a second Listed success, in Cork's Noblesse
she was a nice filly last year and progressed well but she was a bit below par in France (in September) when the ground was very fast. I thought she did well to win today's tactical race as she went to the front early and fought all the way to the line. It was a very good ride and hopefully she is a progressive filly for this year. There is no doubt she will be at her best when she has a bit of juice (in the ground) and while Dylan said we could consider 10 furlongs if we wanted to but I think she'll stick to 1m4f. There is the Group 3 Munster Oaks back here in June.
Hassett Drives Solar home in front for Flynn
He is a grand horse and obviously Dundalk didn't suit him. I was hoping to go to Tipperary for a 1m1f race but it was called off so then had nowhere else to run. I came here and luckily he stayed (the distance) although I don't like running them from out of the handicap.
Birdman flies in to make winning debut for Harrington
We've always liked him, he is a lovely horse and was very green. Shane couldn't even hit him as he didn't know what way he could go. Even at the stalls he didn't want to go near them because there was somebody in them. That will crown him and he is a nice horse. Shane was talking about a Listed 1m6f race for him at Navan in May and we've always thought he wanted better ground than today's description (officially 'soft').
Brother to Homeless Songs gets Weld off the mark
I won this maiden with Harzand at the start of his career and this is a gorgeous, kind big horse who would like better ground. I love the way he came home over the last furlong as he only hit his stride. I'm thinking of running him in the Gallinule (Stakes, 1m2f, May) as it would be a logical way to go and that is his most likely next race. As the season progresses he will fill into that big body of his and it is early days in his career. We are very hopeful with him but time will tell. we have only had seven or eight runners this year and they've all run well but I've been waiting for a bit of better ground. Most of mine will appreciate better ground so I'm waiting for it.
Bremen makes winning reappearance under Gavin Ryan
He was working very well and I was fancying him until the rain came, which wouldn't suit him, but I don't think the ground is as bad (officially 'soft') as what they are saying. His last two races were messy and he didn't get a clear run around but has always worked like a nice horse. He is not big at all but if they are fast enough, it doesn't matter what size they are. He did it very nicely today, is a decent horse and we will maybe run in Chester now - that'll tell us where we stand.
Nostringsattached for Kinirons and Joyce in Cork finale
She was really progressive last year and is only coming into herself. We really fancied her and with Wesley's 5lb claim, she was in with no weight at all. I think she'll progress through the year and the Browne's horses improve with time and they give them time as well. She is exciting and we'd be looking for blacktype along the line but will hit the big handicaps and she'll stay 12 furlongs or further. She has jumped a hurdle but I wasn't allowed send her over hurdles yet so we'll see. I think she has a lot more to do on the flat first, so we won't be in any panic.
