Angel In The Sky wins Dundalk's opener
Kalmira wins under 'class' McCullagh ride
it was her first time in a handicap. I know she had two runs in bumpers so she had a bit of education but Niall is class. He has a super pair of hands and she can take a bit of a tug but they went a nice gallop which helped us. Great credit should go to Boardsmill Stud. I contacted John and William Flood who bred her and they said she would be ideal for a syndicate. She’s a dual purpose type. the same syndicate also have Tartlette. She got some black type in Kempton last month which is crucial for those mares. She’s entered in the Goffs Sales on February 8.
Run The Jewels scores on debut for Cahill
Crosse brothers win both divisions of handicap
he got very upset in the stalls the last day and that’s probably the reason why he didn’t run so well. He came back with quite a few cuts. He’s quite tricky but Shane (Crosse) knows him well and was very good on him. Everything has to go right for this chap, he’s good fun but he’s tricky to win with. He likes the all-weather and will be back here. A mile is good but he was also just beaten over seven here before. He seems to do well with a little gap between his races.
Success for Sangria following November disqualification
she deserved that after having the race taken off her - it was nobody's fault, just one of those things. That’s Jake’s first winner for us - he’s still at school but he rides out at the weekends for us. that was her first time over a mile and Jake said last time that she would go further. She settles well, they went quite hard there and he took his time. She picked up well and he said she galloped right through the line. A mile is going to be her job now.
Pretreville wins early-season skirmish
he’s a good horse but was making a little noise and we got a wind operation done on him. We ran him on soft ground and shouldn’t have. He’s only had two bits of work before he ran here, last week and the week before. The first day I worked him he took my breath away. there are loads of options and he’ll go for either the Doha race that Bowerman won last year or to Dubai on Super Saturday. The Doha race is over a mile but it’s quite a tight track and it could suit him. Super Saturday is over seven, he just needs to settle a bit. We have new French owners in along with Shamrock (Thoroughbreds) and I’m delighted.
Singsong Lady scores surprise success
she’s a lovely big scopey filly and loved that surface. I’m not sure where I’ll go with her next but it’s nice to win a maiden with her. She’s a big, tall lady and we gave her a break after her run in Naas and she has come on plenty for it. She’s come home well and when she got there she’s pricked her ears as well. She won snug enough. I’ve always thought she’s like that surface. We’ll have a look a see what there is here for her and if not we might put her away. She probably wants nice ground.
Tavern triumphs for third trainer
he beat two of mine in claimers so if he’s going to keep beating you in claimers, you might as well take him and have him on your team!. We’ve just given him a couple of breezes to keep him fresh and he showed plenty of boot so we said we’d take a chance and see if he could drop back to six (furlongs). I’m pleasantly surprised. He got 7lb for the first claimer and another 7lb for the last one so the handicapper obviously rated him. We’ll keep him busy like the rest of them now.
