Gilligan/Russell win Kilbeggan's opener
Gilligan later commented .I made a chronic mistake running him in the winners bumper last time. I thought the owner was going back to Dubai and would want to see him run. It was a mistake on my behalf,. If he had soft ground he would have been a lot closer last time. He previous run at Galway was brilliant and at Sligo first time he had a good run but missed the last three flights. That ground is still too good for him. He wants it softer and is a winter horse. He's tough. We'll take our time with him as I think he's a nice horse and Davy liked him a lot.
Plinth wins for McManus, O'Brien & Walsh
Whisper makes winning switch to hurdles
I'm sorry for Davy but Roger gave him an absolute cracker of a ride. Davy was a great help and told him what we needed,. I was a bit worried coming here as he's being running over a mile on the Flat and we've made plenty of use of him so I was worried he would be a bit gassy. We put the hood on him and he got a very good ride. Roger is a very good horseman and I was delighted when he came to me in the weigh room. Switching him off was the key. He's very honest and there aren't many that win four in a year. We'll mix it with him but he's just got a bit high on the Flat. Once the winter ground comes he'll be finished and I'll send him back home.
'Baily' connections claim second win in 24hrs
he's just keen and makes like hard for himself but the hood seems to work. We'll look for something similar again.
Mullins' mare makes winning chase debut
she's a smashing mare and that's a bumper, four hurdles and a chase win now. She's really come into her own this year and is a lot stronger. She's very relaxed and that's such an advantage over three miles. There is a great mares novice chase program and we'll try and take advantage of that. Paul was very good on her and got her round in one piece. He said she made a little mistake early on and it took a while to get her confidence but you don't mind that on their first run. She's not big but that's her trip and she's a real stayer.
Dempsey shines on Stonehall
It's badly wanted. He had a good run in Tramore and should have won here two months ago but his jumping let him down,. He should win one more if the handicapper isn't too hard on him. Basically he's too free and if he settled he'd be a grand horse. There is a 109 for him in Galway. I'm delighted for the owners who are local to me in Askeaton.
Mullins completes Kilbeggan double
I just felt he was very keen in Galway; I’ve been riding him out since and felt that was the way to ride him, let him roll as he's a big long striding horse. It's a tight track and I didn't want to get caught up among horses. He's fit and probably the best horse in the race so I kept it simple. He may go for the winners bumper in Listowel. I think a flat track is ideal for him as he's a big shell of a horse and he's a bit weak to be tackling a big hill at the moment. With good ground on a flat track he's a fair horse.
