Lake avoids carnage to take opener at Kilbeggan
Things had to go right sometime! . He (David Casey) hadn't gone for her yet (at three out). She galloped on well and it was nice that it was made easier. She might go for a two and a quarter mile handicap hurdle at Galway next. Up the hill might suit her. She loves that type of track, she likes Sligo as well.
Annie scores for the Doyles
That was grand, thank God. That was Jack's first winner as a professional for me. He just came over today and is back in England tomorrow, riding in Market Rasen. She loves that quick ground and she will jump a fence in time. If the ground stay hard she will go for a winners hurdle next.
Benefit benefits from low weight
I kind of fancied her off her low weight. I'm delighted for the lads that owned her, they are nearly all from my home town of Castlegar (Co Galway). She will probably stick to this grade now and might go for a two and a quarter mile handicap hurdle at Galway next.
Age is just a number for Tory Hill Lad
That wasn't a surprise at all. He won here before and was second in a hurdle here last year. He is in good form and is very ground dependent. It's off to Galway with him now for a race on the Tuesday or the Friday. He will be entered for a conditions race on the Tuesday and the Galway Blazers on the Friday, but we would be a bit worried he might not get into that.
Mullins & Elliott dead-heat
He hasn't that much scope and he will probably go for a little novice chase in the UK now. He will prefer the smaller field as well. I'm delight with that. David (Casey) got him jumping well. He can be a bit dodgy at times. He will mix it over hurdles and fences for the rest of the summer now. He is better on good ground. David gets on well with him and we will keep him to the country tracks now.
Future the Star of Midlands National
That was great. He was probably unlucky on his last start to come up against a better handicapped horse (Keogh's Bar). The better gallop today and the extra two furlongs suited him. He probably got there a bit too soon the last day and idled a bit. We will see what the handicapper does to him now but he will probably go for something similar. He has plenty of options as he is still a novice. He has had his problems in the past and has been called a few names along the way!. That was John's (John Cullen) first winner for the yard.
Five wins from six for Mullins this week
That was probably not the strongest bumper ever but it was a great improvement from the last day. The ground was the key as he was much better suited to that surface. He will go hurdling but we might look at a winners bumper for him next. He has the size and scope to go chasing eventually and I was very pleased with the way he stayed on and he might be a three mile chaser in time.
