Bay Ambition delivers up the hill in Downpatrick
She ran a blinder the first day in Roscommon and it looked an obvious race there today with the step up in trip. It's grand, she was good and stamina came into play. The majority of the syndicate are from Galway.
Local winner Balgowlah lands gamble in Downpatrick
Delighted but I feel sorry for Donagh Meyler who got a suspension last week off him - the horse got into a bit of interference coming into the straight (in Navan) and flew home. Donagh got off him and said 'if I ride him again he will win'. Sean (Flanagan) just happened to get the ride on him today and gave him a great ride. He deserved it, he had been consistent here in three or four runs and we knew he would get up the hill. The only worry was what Navan had taken out of him. He's only four and he is a tough, little horse and we bought him cheaply for a syndicate. All is good with him. Course form is a great thing with him. He loved that ground - his next stop could be Ayr on the 28th October or there's a three mile 0-102 in Down Royal at the Festival (in November). With the syndicate I'd say we'd be going for the festival. He stays well and he'd jump a fence some day too.
Unheralded Definite Plan comes forward for top team
He hadn't been showing much at home so we said we would give him a run and see where we are,. I think he pulled up in four or five point-to-points and listen Davy (Russell) gave him a good ride. It's great for James (Reilly) and his wife - they are big supporters of the yard and it is nice for them to get a winner. He won snug and he might to to England for a novice hurdle.
Persian Wind enjoys "run of the race" from the front
He's a bit better over fences but he was able to dictate it from the front and we are delighted,. Our fella has run well around here before. He has struggled a bit over fences this year and has probably struggled a bit over hurdles too. It suited him today, he got the run of the race. We'll tip away with him, he's been a great servant and has won plenty of prize money. He has won a few races. He'll mix it with fences. He's a bit lower over hurdles and has won off that mark before and was entitled to go close.
