THE LAVAZZA & ASCOT 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY VICTORIA CUP (CLASS 2 HERITAGE HANDICAP) Permission was given for POPMASTER (IRE), CARRYTHEONE, MERLIN THE WIZARD and KING’S VANITY to wear a red hood to post; HICKORY (IRE) to be mounted in the chute.
An enquiry was held to consider interference 1 furlong after the start involving ROPEY GUEST, placed fifth, ridden by Tom Queally, POPMASTER (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Brandon Wilkie, MOSTABSHIR, unplaced, ridden by Jim Crowley and STREETS OF GOLD (IRE), placed sixth, ridden by Georgia Dobie.
Queally was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he shifted towards the rail, when insufficiently clear, taking POPMASTER (IRE), MOSTABSHIR and STREETS OF GOLD (IRE) off their intended lines.
An enquiry was held to consider interference 1 ½ furlong out involving BLESS HIM (IRE), placed third, ridden by Pat Cosgrave and LONDONER (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Billy Loughnane.
Cosgrave was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he shifted right-handed, when insufficiently clear, resulting in Loughnane having to take a check.
It was noted that in the final furlong, HICKORY (IRE), placed fourth, was momentarily denied a clear run and shortly after Lewis Edmunds, the rider of MUSTAJAAB, unplaced, struck HICKORY (IRE) once over the nose with the whip, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was considered to be accidental.
