Review thurles 20th Oct Davy Russell had a tremendous day at Thurles with a treble, culminating in Sea Of Thunder's success in the Cashel Maiden Hurdle.Charles Byrnes' evens favourite was always in command in the home straight, beating Back In A Tic by two and a half lengths.Russell's run started in the first race when Shop DJ ran out a convincing winner of the Holycross Mares Chase for trainer Peter Fahey.The 13-8 favourite had eased into a narrow lead over Golden Sunbird when that rival took a crashing fall at the last, allowing a motionless Russell to ease the six-year-old to an eight-length win over Our Victoria.Russell made it a quick double in the next event when Rivage D'Or opened his account over fences in the www.thurlesraces.ie beginners Chase.Always travelling kindly, the 9-4 favourite took closer order at the second last and came away up the run-in to score by four lengths from Toon River.Pineau De Re proved just the strongest in a highly competitive Premier County Hurdle.After pacesetter Let Yourself Go faded on the home bend, Berties Dream looked set for a big battle with Rigour Back Bob.However, Pineau De Re (6-1), who had been ridden with more restraint in the early stages by Brian O'Connell, loomed upsides approaching the last and finished well to beat Rigour Back Bob by two lengths.Barel Of Laughs belied a lack of chasing experience when beating more seasoned rivals in the Horse & Jockey Handicap Chase.The 5-1 favourite had only raced once over the larger obstacles, winning at Tipperary, but got the better of a real battle on the run-in to beat Model County Lass by a head under Tom Doyle.Thegondolier (33-1) wasn't exactly impressive on his debut over timber, but he made no mistake when causing an upset in the Killinan 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle under Alan Crowe, beating hot favourite Solaras Exhibition by eight lengths.
