Review roscommon 5th Jul Regal Ambition made the most of his light weight to land the feature Leo Dolan Memorial Handicap Hurdle at Roscommon for the Charlie Swan team.Denis Hogan was always close to the pace in the three-mile contest and after taking the lead going to the second-last, he emerged from a four-horse collision at the last with enough still in the tank.Ruby Walsh had kep out of trouble as he crept into contention on the favourite, Cootamundra, and he was the big danger on the run-in, but Regal Ambition (12-1) ran on strongly and scored by three-quarters of a length.There was a shock in the opening Athleague Maiden Hurdle when Carlingford Lough (7-1), the second of the reserves, came into the race and overturned the 8-15 favourite Park Ranger.There was nothing between the pair over the final three flights and it was the John Kiely-trained Carlingford Lough, in the JP McManus colours, who ran on the stronger to get home by three-quarters of a length under Mark Walsh.Eoin Doyle's Safari Sunup (10-1) followed up his Tramore maiden victory last month with a gutsy success in the Oran Novice Hurdle.The favourite Jacksonslady held a clear advantage turning into the straight, but Safari Sunup responded well to Shay Barry's urgings and reeled her in, going on to win by half a length despite a clumsy jump at the second-last.Ruby Walsh had an untroubled passage as his father Ted's evens favourite Royal Reveille demolished the opposition in the Pyramid Bookmakers Maiden Hurdle.The six-year-old jumped fluently throughout and took over in the back straight before sauntering to a 12-length victory over Sea Master.Top-weight Banna Man (5-2 favourite) led two out and eased five and a half lengths clear in the first division of the jogforjockeys.ie Handicap Hurdle, while Heavenly Bound (7-2) coasted away in the second division to win by the same distance.
