Zephron strikes again at the Curragh Zephron bagged his third Curragh win when bursting through inside the final furlong to land the PG Duffy & Sons Citroen Handicap for trainer Denis Cullen. The Ivawood gelding went to post a 13/2 shot on his second outing of the season having been mid-division on his return at Naas last month. Wayne Hassett had to switch his mount a couple of times to look for a gap in the seven-furlong contest. He got a clear run to lead inside the final furlong and secure a hard fought half-length win over El Bello. The winner had scored over course and distance on his final start of last season and had also won over six furlongs at the course a few years ago. Cullen was recording his first winner since the same horse scored here in November and he said:- Cullen said:- “It looked like they went pretty hard early, and Wayne said he got squeezed back a bit but was happy to take his time. “He likes the Curragh and handles that ground well. He had a nice run in Naas which brought him on a lot and he seemed in good form today. “He has form on most types of ground but handles that better than most horses. “We’ll see what way the weather goes, and he could end up back in Galway for something. He got touched off there a few years ago.” (Quotes by Alan Magee)
