Zaffy's Pride lands the Star Appeal under Madden Jessica Harrington’s stable jockey Shane Foley is suspended for tonight’s action and Tom Madden was the man to steer home Commonstown’s Zaffy’s Pride in the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Star Appeal Stakes at Dundalk. One of two fillies in the line up, Zaffy’s Pride raced towards the rear, before making progress after two and a half furlongs. She was fifth halfway, coming with her effort and ridden under two furlongs out. Leading narrowly over a furlong out, Zaffy’s Pride kept on well in the final furlong to beat Magnanimous and the staying on Admiral Nelson by a length and a quarter and half a length. “That was nice. She was good there today and that was a big improvement on her previous runs,” said Madden. “I know she won the last day but obviously going seven furlongs has brought out the best in her. “She was second here on her first run but was a little bit disappointing in Navan. “We thought she had enough pace for the five-and-a-bit in Navan but obviously she won over six the last day and seven today so the trip has brought out the best in her. “It's great to win a Listed race for the horse and for me as well, that's my second of the year.” The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Deputy Sandy, trained by Mrs John Harrington, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. C.P. Hoban, rider of Deputy Sandy, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran very disappointingly. (GC & EM)
