The betting led punters to the opening winner at Proudstown Park whilst it was stable form and indeed market movements too that pointed some in the direction of Sors the victor in the Navanracecourse.ie Handicap.
Hot on the heels of Offline doing the business for his County Tipperary yard at Dundalk last night, here Andy Slattery's Sors (15/2 earlier into 11/2) was always to the fore.
The trainer's son Andrew had Sors in front halfway, and he kept on well inside the final furlong to defeat Art Of Unity by two and a half lengths.
"He wasn't right last year and was intermittently lame. We let him off and he's come on well for the run at Naas and worked well during the week," revealed the successful handler.
"We'll keep him now for the Premier Handicaps and he'll get in off bottom weight.
"He was going bad as a three-year-old and Andrew started riding him out. He was only five stone at the time and brought him back to life. He knows the horse well and it was grand to get a winner on him. He'll go for the likes of the Rockingham now."
The Stewards fined J.A.Stack, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Court Queen in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91.
The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
