It was worth racing back to Dundalk for jockey Wayne Lordan as he drove David Wachman’s well-backed Pleasant Bay to victory in the six furlong juvenile maiden.
Lordan finished seventh on Duntle in the Beverly D Stakes at Arlington in America yesterday.
Pleasant Bay went off at 11/10 favourite (from 9/4 this morning) and Lordan delivered him to challenge Wateed a furlong and a half out. He kept on well inside the last furlong to score by half a length.
He’s A Saint, on his first racecourse appearance for David Marnane got up to dead-heat for second at 16/1 with Wateed (10/1).
“He travelled well, but he was fairly raw when I brought him to challenge. He rolled about quite a bit,” Wayne Lordan reported.
“He’s always worked like a good horse, but he was a bit greener than I thought he’d be.
“He handled the surface well. He needs good ground and I’d say he wouldn’t mind going a bit further.”
Pleasant Bay had been fourth on debut at Leopardstown, beaten less than two lengths by Ken Condon’s Sacred Aspect, who has subsequently had success at Listed level.
