Wojood makes the most of his opportunity First reserve Wojood made the most of his opportunity in the Littleton Handicap, as he just got the better of Rock On Pedro. A winner over flights at Tramore in August, the Denis Hogan trained victor failed to make an impact on his most recent start at Listowel. Back on the level this afternoon, the son of Dansili was sent off a 22/1 chance under Joe Doyle for the Full Of Hope Syndicate. Settled behind the leaders, the five-year-old took closer order on the approach to the straight and improved into a share of the lead from the two furlong pole. Ridden inside the final furlong, he soon was engaged in a battle with Rock On Pedro and just a nose separated the pair at the line. The runner-up was returned at 33/1 under Mark Enright for Eoin Doyle, while Walnut Beach, who was sent off the 2/1 favourite (6/1 this morning), was another length and three parts back in third. Hogan, who had earlier taken out Whyzzat which allowed Wojood to get a run, said: "I was very impressed the way he battled there today and Joe gave him a great ride. "It's great for the syndicate who own the local pub, the Clough Inn in Cloughjordan. "He only cost 4,800 pounds and is after winning three races now and been placed a bit. He's a good fun dual-purpose horse." The winner is declared to run at Dundalk tomorrow evening, with Izzy Clifton booked to ride. STEWARDS REPORTS * Sam Ewing, rider of Crackaway (FR) trained by Seamus Fahey, reported to the Clerk of Scales that he ran short of room on the run to the line. * S. Foley, rider of Eastern Tornado trained by Michael P. Hourigan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount didn't handle the ground. * The Stewards reviewed an incident in the closing stages involving Belgoprince (FR), ridden by G.M. Ryan, placed fourth, Clear Quartz, ridden by S.T. McCullagh, unplaced and Wojood (GB), ridden by James J. Doyle, placed first, where it appeared the three came close together. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted. Additional reporting by Alan Magee
