Winning chase debut for Broomfield Bijou Well-backed Broomfield Bijou (morning 7/2, returned 6/4f) made a winning chase debut at Wexford today, when making virtually all under jockey Keith Donoghue in the the opening Wexford Mares Beginners Chase. A winner at the 2023 Punchestown festival, Broomfield Bijou today jumped well and readily held runner-up Costanuci by six lengths, to move jockeys' championship leader Donoghue to 18 winners for the new season. Winning trainer Philip Dempsey reported “I left instructions to Keith as he knows her well an she just jumped her way to the front after getting a lead down over the first. “She had a look today and will be sharper the next time. She is very good to jump and anyone who has ridden her has always said that chasing would be her game. She is out of a half-sister to (Gold Cup-placed) Anibale Fly, so has a good jumping pedigree and is one to look forward to. “There is a novice chase in Listowel and I'd say she will go for that next."
