Brendan Walsh's Rochestown enhanced his excellent record in Tramore with victory in the extended 2m5f handicap hurdle.

Josh Williamson was booked to lessen the top weight's burden by 7lb and this success brought up a first double for the young jockey who won the preceding race aboard Machismo

Rochestown settled close to the pace and Williamson sent him to the front on the long descent to the penultimate hurdle.

He was chased by Blue In The West but the leader was strong on the run to the last and forged on well to strike by six lengths to the cheers of favourite backers who took the 7/4.

Blue In The West (12/1) was booked for second and was the same distance in front of Ivane (9/2).

Rochestown's record for Walsh in Tramore now reads ''21131'.

Walsh said: "That was great, he was the form horse in the race and you just need a bit of luck then. The rain came and just made the ground free.

"Cal Shine would have been riding him only for he is suspended today. Cal comes in to ride out at home.

"I got Josh then as he is great value for the 7lb and he gave him a great ride. He jumped brilliant and we might go back over fences with him now. We'll enjoy today first anyway."
