Amateur jockey Tom Weston was taken by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for further assessment following a fall in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival.

Weston was riding Benbane Head for Martin Keighley when he parted company with his mount in an incident at the 14th fence.

He was treated on course initially and then taken to the medical room for examination, before officials decided he required a more thorough check away from the track.

Keighley said: "The doctors are a lot happier with him and he's regained consciousness.

"He was a little bit dazed and he's going to go to hospital in Bristol just to get checked over.

"His mum has been to see him and he should be fine."

A statement from Cheltenham read: "He has been airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for further assessment and treatment. He is breathing and conscious and more information will be released in the morning."
