Western Dreaming was an appropriately named winner at Ballinrobe today, as the Jayne Hearne-trained seven year old gained an overdue first win in the Burke Family Clonbur Memorial Handicap Hurdle (div II).
A €110,000 yearling, he was unraced for John Gosden, unplaced for Pat Breen and today scored on his 15th attempt.
Ridden by Conor Brassil, the son of High Chaparral raced with the pace, led after the last and held fast-finishing Chief Seattle by a neck.
Hearne, who rode seven flat winners under her maiden name Mulqueen, sent out Cheltenham also-ran Monishter Are Mwee to win last season and Brassil today said "Jayne has a small outfit, only has a couple of horses so I'm delighted for her more than anything.
“I'm based down in Waterford with Henry De Bromhead at the moment, so I can drop over to Jayne when she needs me. That's her second winner and it was nice to get one over the line for her.”
He added “his last couple of runs were good and I thought if I got him placed right, he probably would win. He missed the last but when I got stuck into him he really put his head down and galloped to the line.”
