Well-backed Feather lands Clonmel opener Well-backed favourite Featherinyourcap chased down front-runner Montys Angel to claim the opening Mylerstown Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel this afternoon. Montys Angel jumped into the lead at the third flight in the two-miler, which was confined to horses that hadn't been placed before, and was clear from the next. She came back to the field slightly turning for home and after a slight mistake two from home was pursued by Featherinyourcap. Denis Cullen's charge was slightly untidy at the second last also and after clipping the last ran on well, under Jody McGarvey to grab the leader on the run-in. The JP McManus-owned gelding went on to record a two-and-a-half length success. He was returned 11/4 favourite having been 7/1 this morning. Cullen said afterwards:- "It was a soft enough race and it was grand to get it. Hopefully he'll get a bit of confidence from that and go on. "He ran well and then lost his way a little bit and lost his confidence and then he was nearly brought down at Ballinrobe the last day and we weren't at the races that day. "Jody said it rode a messy sort of race and they went ten different gallops and were quickening and slowing and racing in different places. “On ratings he seemed to be the best horse in the race and lucky enough he has come out the right side of it."
