Dermot Weld unveiled a potential star when his Waaheb (11/8f), under a motionless Robbie McNamara, effortlessly landed the concluding newcomer’s www.leopardstown.com Bumper at Leopardstown today.
Carrying the colours of Weld’s son Kris, the son of Elusive Quality improved to lead on the bridle a furlong out, before sauntering to a four lengths win.
Afterwards Weld Snr stated “Waaheb is still a bit weak and immature and he’s not a Cheltenham bumper horse. He’ll run next in Limerick’s Champion Four Year Old Bumper, a race we’ve won a few times, but jumping is his forte. He has been well schooled and will make a nice horse next Autumn.”
Waaheb's win was both Weld's and McNamara's fourth winner in the last fortnight.
