Voluptueux lands the gamble this time Voluptueux confirmed the promise of his debut performance when landing a punt in the concluding bumper at Limerick. Philip Fenton’s French bred four-year-old gelding was 12/1 this morning and opened 7/1 at the track before being backed down to 9/2 on the off. He travelled nicely and came to win his race in the final furlong as Richie Kiely used hands and heels to see him home by four and three quarter lengths. Two outsiders came through to fill the places – Belle Indigo on debut at 33/1, half a length ahead of Gocheck at 25/1. “He’s a nice horse indeed. He had a nice run at Listowel and I was hoping he would improve, but they don’t all improve. That run was the making of him,” Philip Fenton said. “The ground was plenty safe, but I had no doubts about running him. He’ll go hurdling in three or four weeks time.” Voluptueux had run sixth in a 17-runner bumper in Listowel on debut, where he was heavily backed from 25s to an SP of 8/1.
