Venezia pleases O'Grady with success in Navan finale "My last two runners on the Flat, one was beaten a head and the other was beaten three parts of a length so it was nice to get the right side of the photograph this time," reflected Edward O'Grady after winning the finale at Navan, the Come To The Family Day May 18th Handicap with 25/1 chance Venezia. Declan McDonogh did the steering on the successful grey and he got the upper hand on runner-up Strange Notions, by the minimum margin, a nose. "We did an operation on his wind in the winter and perhaps that helped him. He just seemed to finish it out better than he was, which is nice at his age," elaborated O'Grady. "There's not a lot more Flat races in him so we'll just poke away as best we can. "He has won over hurdles and fences. Maybe now that he has his confidence back he might improve. I'm just delighted to win." (MG & EM)
