The market spoke in favour of Jan Van Eyck in the Peter O’Brien & Sons Landscaping Claiming Race, and the money proved well informed as he took this in runaway fashion.

Shane Foley drove the Raven’s Pass gelding to the front soon after leaving the stalls and, after shrugging off the challenge of Threat Resolved early in the straight, was in total command inside the final quarter mile.

The 13/8 favourite (from 5/2) kept up the gallop to beat Stepping Down (11/4) by a yawning seven lengths, with Wyoyo (8/1) another three quarters of a length adrift in third.

Winning trainer Ken Condon said, “He had bits and pieces of form and that will do his confidence good. Shane kept it simple, and he stays a mile and a half well.

“The visor he has worn the last two times has helped him, and he looked genuine and uncomplicated there. If he’s not claimed he’ll go handicapping.”

However it later emerged that Ger O'Leary claimed the winner for 15,000 euro.
