Mollys Glory swept over the top of the opposition to bring up plenty of bets in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle over 2m7f in Thurles.
Her price contracted from 11/1 in the morning to 5/1 on the off and this was a decent effort as she had to give significant weight away to the field. She was up in trip and a first-time tongue-tie was deployed.
Michael O'Sullivan pushed her along in fifth rounding the home bend and the pair came to the outer in jumping the penultimate flight.
One crack saw Mollys Glory make eye-catching headway to hit the front before the last. She wasn't home yet, though, as she dived at it but was soon back into stride and ran on well to win by a length and three-parts from fast-finishing Workforadime (7/2f). Milanaway completed the placings at 5/1.
Michael Grassick said: "She had been a bit disappointing on the Flat and couldn't figure out why her runs were so bad as she had been working well at home. She does a lot of messing with her tongue, so we said we'd buy her a tongue-tie and it has obviously helped.Â
"In fairness to Tom Dowling, who works for me, he suggested to step her right up in trip so I'll thank him. It looks as if she wants every bit of the distance.
"He (O'Sullivan) said he was in front too soon, but didn't expect her to pick up as she did.
"She wants decent ground - you'll always gets that here and we'll have a look for another race now. If she hadn't run well today, she was going to stud as she has black-type in bumpers."
Mollys Glory also has a Thurles bumper to her name.
