Out of luck earlier with Fade In (fell at the second last when in front), Robert Tyner and Phillip Enright gained some compensation in the Derrygrath Novice Handicap Chase, as Vicangelome followed up on his win over hurdles at Naas last month.
Also successful over fences at Wexford in October, the son of Laveron has now won three of his last four starts.
Sent off the 9/4 joint-favourite today he raced mainly in third as Il Fenomeno attempted to make all.
He came with his challenge on the outer as they entered the straight, hitting the front at the second last before keeping on well on the run-in to score by two and a half lengths. Goulane Chosen was the other joint-favourite (from 9/2 last night) and he ran on well to take second, while Il Fenomeno was a further three and three parts of a length back in third under Ger Fox for Johnny Hurley.
Robert Tyner said afterwards: "He didn't jump great in Gowran and we have given him plenty of schooling since. He handles that ground well.
"There’s a novice handicap at Naas in just over a fortnight. We'll see how he is and he can mix it between hurdles and fences."
Phillip Enright added: "A horse fell in front of him at the second or third fence in Gowran and I could never get him jumping again. I was out of the race after that.
"Robert thought it would be a good idea to run him over hurdles to get his confidence back. He did and it was the right thing to do.
"He jumped very well today and thankfully he did it. His owners (The One In A Million Syndicate) are a great bunch of lads and they'll celebrate tonight.
"He is a lovely horse, he has won two chases, a bumper and a hurdle and hopefully we'll have a couple of more days with him."
He added on Fade In: "It's disappointing when they fall, and at two out I suppose it's hard to tell whether they'd win or not. It's grand to get a winner after though, it lifts the spirits again.
"She is a ten-year-old mare, she won a bumper when she was five and got a couple of injuries.
"Her owners were very patient with her and it's just disappointing then when she falls with a chance. They are a great bunch of lads and they stayed so loyal to her."
STEWARDS REPORT
Mr D.T. McGrath, rider of Goulane Chosen trained by David J. McGrath, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount lost a front shoe in running.
B.T. O'Connell, rider of Westerner Point trained by Eoghan O'Grady, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and may not have enjoyed being held up under a change of riding tactics.
