True Self returned to where she left off at Gowran today with a fourth consecutive success as the Willie Mullins trained mare landed the featured Listed BetVictor Irish EBF Vintage Tipple Stakes on her seasonal reappearance run.
The national hunt-bred daughter of Oscar proved a revelation last year when sent flat racing, winning three races in succession, the latest two being in Listed races at Bath and Newmarket. Today, on her first run for 186 days, the six year old picked up the thread when beating runner-up Jaega by a comfortable three parts of a length.
Mullins, who sent out 11 winners at last week's Punchestown festival prior to being crowned Champion Jumps Trainer for the 13th time, wasn't present and following the race jockey Keane said “she's progressed no end since winning her maiden on the Flat and she just seems to be getting better with every run.
“She's a nice filly to look forward to during the summer, hopefully.
“She had a nice blow and I didn't want to be hard on her for no reason. I think she'll come on fitness wise from it.”
