The Henry De Bromhead trained Town And Country got up in the dying strides to open her account at the second time of asking in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Navan.

A barrier trail winner at Dundalk, the daughter of Earthlight had no luck in running when only seventh at Naas on her racecourse debut last month.

Sent off 15/2 under Billy Lee, the filly tracked the leaders for the first part of the race, as Snapdragon led 2/5f Saratoga Special

The latter looked the most likely winner inside the final furlong as she closed on the Aidan O'Brien trained leader but Town And Country produced a smart turn of foot to get up close home to win by a head.

Snapdragon held second, with Saratoga Special a short head behind in third.

Robert Power representing Henry de Bromhead said: “I’m delighted with that dropping back to five. The quicker ground probably suited her.

“She won her barrier impressively but was a bit disappointing at Naas.

“Billy likes her and hopefully she can progress from this.”
