Toscanini recorded his first Group race success and his second victory over six furlongs at the Curragh this year when taking the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club Phoenix Sprint Stakes.
The Shamardal gelding, who landed the Listed Dubai Duty Free Jumeirah Dash Stakes on Irish Derby day, was again prominent throughout.
James Doyle ’s mount edged left and gave eventual third Lord Of The Land a bump over a furlong out but kept on well inside the final furlong to beat Eastern Impact by a length and a quarter.
The stewards enquired into the incident but the places remained unaltered.
Winning trainer Michael Halford said, “He always had ability but only now has he fully grown up. He had his ground conditions today and that is his trip.
“He was a bit weak and immature and used to travel with such ease but didn’t finish his races. We always thought he was a high class horse.
“It was a great ride from James as he did terrific to get across from where he was.”
