Shadagann had to reverse Fairyhouse form from last time with the strong favourite, Spin Point but he proved well up to the task in the hands of Shane Foley in the Go Racing In Kildare Rated Race at the Curragh.
Fifth and third respectively, behind Hudson's Bay at Fairyhouse a fortnight back, Shadagann (13/2) and Spin Point (7/4) had differing levels of market expectation behind them on this occasion.
Spin Point mightn't have enjoyed a trouble free passage, but there was no disputing Shadagann's superiority at the line, as he came out on top by a length and three parts from Boherbuoy
Spin Point was a length and half off them in third.
"He did it well in fairness to him. He was a bit unlucky in Fairyhouse. He got upset in the stalls and lost ground. He ran well then from an unpromising position," said Foley of Paul Rooney and Michael Halford's winner.
"He likes it here at the Curragh and he's a grand horse."
The Stewards received a request from A.P. O'Brien ,trainer, to substitute J.P. O'Brien with D. O'Brien on his charge Los Barbados A.P. O'Brien stated that his office had inadvertently nominated J.P. O'Brien to ride this animal and despite the error being noticed immediately after the time for the close of rider nominations, it was too late to make the necessary change.
Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards allowed the request but cautioned A.P. O'Brien concerning his responsibility in regard to the nomination of riders.
