Connections of Hugo 'n Taz reaped the rewards after deciding to turn their charge out again quickly in the Costello & McDermott Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe tonight.
The Kayf Tara gelding had been beaten three-and-a-quarter lengths by Heroesandvillians in the opener at Kilbeggan last night.
Denis Hogan made the running on the 6/4 shot tonight and was joined by even-money favourite Touch Base going out on the final circuit in the two-mile five contest.
The market leader came under pressure after the second last, however, and Hugo 'n Taz was soon in control.
Trainer/rider Hogan could afford to coast home in the closing stages as he recorded an effortless 10-length win.
"The track didn't suit him last night. He's seventeen hands and he had to do the donkey work there," said Hogan.
"Today it was lovely as he got lobbing away in his comfort zone.
"He'll probably go back chasing and to get a maiden hurdle win out of him is a bonus.
"It's unfortunate Liam (Mulryan, owner) couldn't be here. He's based out in Portugal now and had to go back last night.
"He was here for the Kilbeggan run and he told me if the horse was fit and well this morning to drive on and try and get this prize."
