Mac Swiney emerged on top after a thrilling finish to the Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes at the Curragh this afternoon.

Jim Bolger 's charge had won his maiden over course and distance last month but was sent to post a 28/1 shot today having beaten just one home in the Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown last time.

Kevin Manning got a good tune out of the New Approach gelding in the closing stages of the seven-furlong contest as he ran down front-runner Ontario to get up close home.

4/5 favourite Cadillac also finished off well on the far side to claim the runner-up spot close home, half-a-length behind the winner.

“We're delighted with that run. He did it well on ground he wouldn't really appreciate,” said Una Manning.

“The plan now is to go for the National Stakes. When he won here the last time he said he was his Derby horse.

“We're very pleased with him today, he was very good. It seemed to be a strong race. Hopefully we can get a good result in the National Stakes now and go from there.”
