Jamie Flynn had nobody to thank but the jockey at Dundalk today being the owner, trainer, breeder and groom of his first winner, and only horse, Storm Eric (9/2) in the 12th July Ladies Day Handicap.

Having his 11th start and held up in rear, Storm Eric flew home to score a head victory under jockey Cian MacRedmond.

Flynn, with his hands full and on lead-up duty, reported “it was a good buzz — the race was in the balance with a furlong to go and there is no better feeling.

“He is my only horse and I bred him myself. I just do this for the enjoyment of it. I'm training beside the beach in Donabate so I do a lot of work there. He has knocked on the door a couple of times and the drop back in trip and the tongue-tie seemed to work.”

Flynn, who as an amateur rider narrowly defeated Ruby Walsh to win a Punchestown festival chase on Goonyella, humbly added "I used to ride a bit for Jim Dreaper point-to-pointing but was modest enough!"
