Spinacre creates quite an impression Spinacre absolutely blitzed her rivals in the seven furlong juvenile maiden as she won in a canter by 10 lengths with Chris Hayes in the saddle. The 11/4 shot, trained by Kevin Prendergast, led from the off and when asked to go and win her race a furlong and a half out the acceleration was impressive. She is a daughter of Verglas and showed a good quick action on the soft to heavy ground. James Kelly, husband of owner Lisa Kelly, said: “It’s like an Arc win for us! It was always Lisa’s dream to breed and own a winner herself. It’s the first horse we’ve had with Kevin. “The mare she is from (Spinamix) has bred four Stakes winners. Within a week of this filly being with Kevin he said she was really good. “She got injured after her first run (in Navan) and had a few weeks off. She was just back 13 days when she ran at Naas and got a bit tired. “She may run in a Group race at the Curragh in September. She could run in the Group 3 Roundtower Stakes or the Listed Blenheim Stakes.” James Kelly works as the racing manager for Lady O’Reilly. The race for minor honours was won by Lirico at 25/1 beating another outsider, 20/1 shot Truly Delightful into third by a head. King Of The Romans, the 4/6 favourite for Aidan and Joseph O’Brien, never got competitive and came home fourth. (on course reporting by Thomas Weekes)
