After finishing a promising second on his debut at the Curragh on the opening day of the Flat Turf season almost two weeks ago, Speaking Of Which went one place better today in the last at Cork a colts and geldings maiden over a mile.
Trained by Dermot Weld and ridden by Pat Smullen the 3yo son of Invincible Spirit made all and kept on well from over a furlong out to score by a comfortable two and a quarter lengths at the odds of 6/4 favourite (backed from 13/8). Taigan for Aidan & Joseph O'Brien finished second at 4/1 while Dynamite Dixie for Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning was a further three and three parts of a length back in third at 5/2.
The winner is a half-brother to the former Dermot Weld trained four time National Hunt winner Noble Crusader who is now under the care of Richard Lee and Designated Decoy who was also previously trained by Weld, winning twice.
The bay colt holds entries in the 2000 Guineas at the Curragh in May and the Irish Derby in June.
