Dalton Highway completed a terrific treble for Pat Smullen and Dermot Weld at Navan this afternoon when powering home to land the concluding ten furlong handicap.
The well-backed 9/2 favourite (8/1 this morning) was driven along to make progress from mid-division going past the two pole.
The son of Zoffany got to the front passing the furlong marker and stayed on strongly in the closing stages to record a four-and-three-quarter length success.
Dalton Highway had made little impression in an apprentice handicap at the Curragh last weekend but had run well previously when chasing home easy winner Intrepid Prince at Galway.
"He'd a good run in Galway but was no match for the handicap certainty. He's tough and genuine and we'll find another handicap for him,” said Weld.
The winning jockey/trainer combination had also struck earlier with Magnolia Rose and Impart
