Trainer Andy Slattery is fresh from a breakthrough Group race success at the Curragh on Guineas weekend and today was on the mark with Sharjah whose prizemoney earnings broke through the E100,000 mark with a 12th career win, in the McCarthys Fuel And Builders Handicap Hurdle, at Tramore.
The son of Shamardal has previously won seven times on the all-weather at Dundallk, once at Fairyhouse, twice in Britain and today added his win under Galway Hurdle winning jockey Stephen Gray to his sole previous hurdles success, at Roscommon in August 2013.
Slattery, who sent out Champion Hurdler Faugheen to win his point to point before joining Willie Mullins, won Saturday’s Group 2 Landwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh with Creggs Pipes and was today represented by his brother Brian Slattery who later said “he was so well handicapped today and he'll win on the flat again too.”
Winning jockey Gray added “he’s not a bad horse and is a ten-time flat winner.
“He is a good tough little horse, does it from the front everyday and I never missed a beat jumping the whole way today.”
Sharjah has now won E101,500 in prizemoney from an 81 race, five year racing career.
