Edge Of Sanity made the most of getting in as reserve when opening his account in the seven-furlong maiden at Dundalk.
The Jim Bolger-trained colt took the place of non-runner Cottrell after being second reserve.
Kevin Manning produced the 10/1 shot to lead at the furlong pole and he proved too strong for 5/4 favourite High Net Worth
The son of Invincible Spirit went on in the closing stages for a convincing three-and-a-half length success.
The winner had been well beaten when returning from a 10 month absence at Listowel last time.
“Kevin said he was delighted with him. He said he wants to step up in trip and go a bit further,” reported travelling head lad Ger Flynn.
“He's a nice big horse and I think he's in the sales at Newmarket. That was a big step up from Listowel where I'd say the soft ground was against him.
“He has run well here before and seems to like the surface.”
