Jumping is definitely the name of the game at Clonmel today and Warhead stayed on his feet as his challengers crashed out around him in the beginners chase on the card.
It was a change of luck for trainer Paul Nolan, who looked set to land the feature with See U Bob until a last fence fall.
The Gigginstown House Stud owned Warhead was returning from a 525-day absence and proved easy to back on course (7/2 to 9/2).
Fennis Boy took up the running turning for home in the 2m4f event but was soon joined by Warhead and Thepartysover.
The three jumped the second last locked together only for Thepartysover to crash out.
Warhead had the narrowest of advantages going to the final fence but was left to come home clear when Fennis Boy took a heavy fall.
It was a double on the card for Davy Russell, who had benefitted from the fall of Nolan's See U Bob when claiming the feature aboard Organisedconfusion
"Davy said if anything there weren't enough jumps for him - although there were too many for See U Bob earlier!" said Nolan afterwards.
"This fellow got a leg after his last run. We always thought he'd go on summer soft ground but not on today's real heavy ground.
"The only chance of him falling today was at the first. I've never seen horses go so quick into the first in a novice chase on that sort of ground."
Nolan admitted he was frustrated by the fall of See u Bob earlier when success looked in the bag.
"See U Bob is okay but it's very frustrating with him. He has beat Go Native on firm and Kempes on soft so it's just been a bit frustrating with him."
