Gevrey arived late to win at Fairyhouse © Photo Healy Racing
Davy Russell was seen at his brilliant best as he delivered Gevrey from off the pace to win the Paddy Kehoe Suspended Ceilings Rated Novice Chase at Fairyhouse.
A win looked unlikely for much of the race as Russell buried his mount in the pack, as Alko Rouge and Eleazar Des Neiges went toe to toe up front.
As the latter faded from the turn in, Eleazar Des Neiges took up the running on the approach to the second last. By that stage, Russell had the leader covered but it mattered little, as the Gigginstown runner parted company with jockey Mikey O'Connor.
Favourite Stand Off looked beat at the time but was badly hampered by the faller. He eventually had to settle for third place, as No Where Or When kept on to take second.
Gordon Elliott, “I thought Davy gave him a good ride as he doesn’t have that much scope.
“He runs his race every day and always tries his heart out. It’s a nice race to win.
“It’s possible he could go to Galway and he has options over hurdles and fences.”
