The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Whatadifference USA), ridden by D T Pratt, and trained by Mr C F Swan. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer´s representative Mr M Carroll .
D Pratt, stated that his instructions were to jump out 4th or5th & do his best thereafter. He stated that he had been slowly away and had not attempted to make ground initially due to the strong pace. He had made his ground past tired horses & had hit the horse down the shoulder in the straight.
Mr Carroll confirmed the instructions & after conferring with Mr Swan (who had watched the race elsewhere) stated that he was not satisfied with the ride.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Whatadifference was post race normal. Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found that D Pratt had not ridden his mount on its merits in contravention of rule 212. They ordered his riding fee forfeit & suspended him for 14 racedays. They noted Mr Carroll´s & Mr Swan´s evidence.
