Orinoco River was delivered late to gain an overdue win in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Dundalk this afternoon.

The War Front filly had been Listed placed during summer but had been well held on subsequent outings.

She attracted good support today, from 4/1 into 9/4 favourite, and was delivered with a perfectly-timed challenge by Gavin Ryan.

Having been asked for an effort under 'hands and heels' passing the furlong marker she put her head in front close home to record a half-length win over front-runner Jarvis

The winner was narrowly beaten on her debut here back in May and Ryan said afterwards:-

“She's a filly we thought a lot of early on. She was second first time here and then ran in the Queen Mary on her second start so that tells you how much we thought of her.

“Unfortunately she seemed to go off the boil after she got some black-type placed form in the Curragh.

“Donnacha has freshened her back up and she did that really easy today.

“It was good for her to finally get her head in front, as it's been a bit frustrating with her but she definitely has the ability.”
