Redoubtable delivers on eighth time of asking A maximum field of thirty lined up for the second race, the Elusive Pimpernel Maiden over six furlongs for 3yo's and upwards, with the Kevin Prendergast trained, Chris Hayes ridden Redoubtable coming out on top. Having shown plenty of ability in the early part of last season, including finishing just over six lengths behind Maybe in the Group 2 Debutante Stakes, the daughter of Invincible Spirit disappointed on her last two starts in maiden company. On what was her eighth career start this afternoon and her first outing as a 3yo the bay filly raced prominently and was ridden to lead from two furlongs out. She stretched on from over a furlong out, staying on well to score by an easy four and three parts of a length at the odds of 9/1. The Jim Bolger trained, Kevin Manning ridden Rigoletta finished best of the rest back in second at 6/1 while the John Oxx trained newcomer Royal Visit kept on well to take third a further head back at 8/1 under Johnny Murtagh. The 7/2 favourite Atacx for Tommy Stack and Wayne Lordan finished another head back in fourth. Winning trainer Kevin Prendergast said afterwards: "She had been working well and was the highest rated horse in the race. "I was a bit sceptical about her draw (drawn 2). She will probably go for a winners of one now or might run in one of the fillies trial races." The dam of the winner, Rebelline has already produced Recharge (who was also trained by Kevin Prendergast) who won three and was Group 1 placed as well as finished fourth in the Irish 2000 Guineas back in 2009.
