Redclue exploited a chase mark 39lb lower than his hurdle rating when winning in Downpatrick this evening.

Robbie Power was on board in this two mile seven handicap chase and the pair made good headway to grab the lead before the third last. However, a mistake there saw them headed but they regained the lead before the penultimate fence.

Once the last was negotiated they powered clear up the run-in to score by four and a half lengths.

The winner was backed at the track from 11/10 down to 10/11 favourite. Camillas Wish at 8/1 and fellow 8/1 shot Town Pond completed the placings in second and third respectively.

In relation to the difference between his chase and hurdle ratings, Gillian Callaghan said: "He still had to go and do it and I suppose a couple of runs in chases last year he lost a bit of confidence over fences. He jumped well today and I'm delighted with him. He'll be kept going now in similar company. You might see him back here if there is a suitable race for him.

"Conditions and everything suited him. Robbie said he jumped well. He doesn't like to be crowded. He likes a bit of room so Robbie gave him a good spin round. He's rated high enough over hurdles now so we'll keep to chasing for the time being.

"The E R syndicate are from Donegal. There are five members spread around Letterkenny. Three of them made it down here. He has won five times for them now so he is paying his way."
