Recharge for opening Irish Classic

Recharge carrying the colours of Lady O'Reilly and trained by Kevin Prendergast, booked his ticket to the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh with a fine victory in the Group 3 Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial.

The son of Cape Cross denied 1/1 money favourite Intense Focus by a length, and was subsequently made 14/1 for the opening of the Irish Classics at HQ on May 23rd.

"That was good after getting into hassle, he had to stop him and recharge!" said the winning trainer afterwards.

"He was only beaten three parts of a length by one of the leading Derby favourites (Sea The Stars), so if he was that good, he would have to have a squeak here.

"He should have no problem getting 1m2f, and he is in the Irish Derby so I hope he progresses. I don't think he will run before the Irish 2000 Guineas."
