Bookmakers didn't get any respite in the Sliabh Coilte Maiden Hurdle as King Ralph (at least 2s in the morning into 11/8) became the fourth market leader from five races to prevail, battling well from the last to see off Port La Chaine by one and a half lengths at Wexford.
Sporting the well-known Mrs Elizabeth Queally silks, Andrew Leigh did the steering on Jessica Harrington's charge. She said: "Andrew said that he had a lot in hand when the other horse came to him. He made a hash of the first which was probably a good thing as he jumped well after that. He may go to Listowel if the ground is reasonable and he could step-up to two and a half miles."
The dam of King Ralph, Glenpatrick Peach is a half-sister to one of the best known horses to carry the Queally colours, Space Trucker. (EM)
