Owned and bred by the McCarthys at the famed Beeches Stud in County Waterford, Glencairn View put up a stout staying performance to land the Connolly's RED MILLS Amateur National (Q.R.) Handicap Chase at Punchestown.
'Dropped in' initially by talented young pilot Liam Quinlan, the gambled-on 4/1 joint favourite jumped well, and keen on the downhill run away from the stands he soon found himself on the front end.
Credit to ten-year-old Toubaloo as he put it up to his unexposed rival in the straight.
Tony Mullins' handicap chase first timer found plenty from the back of the last though, to prevail by a length and three parts.
"That's his game, he jumps and he stays," said Mullins.
"If he gets in at the bottom in the National Trial here in three weeks, the three-mile six race, that's when I think you'll really see when he stays — I hope.
"He just jumps and stays and I suppose Tramore just caught him out a bit, it was a bit sharp for him and he ran in snatches.
"The National Trial is a €100,000 race this year, so if he gets his one pound for that he mightn't get in!
"If it's not that one he might go for the three-mile one for novices in Navan in early March.
"I rather a galloping track for him. I think I got my little kick in the backside in Tramore and I was sick coming out of that."
