Sizing Pottsie bounced back to winning ways when claiming the Grade 2 Webster Cup Chase at Navan this afternoon.

The Jessica Harrington-trained gelding had last visited the winners enclosure in a valuable handicap contest at Fairyhouse in December 2020 and had chased home Melon on his most recent outing in the Red Mills Chase at Gowran last month.

Robbie Power tracked the leaders today on the 11/2 shot before producing him to challenge three from home in the two-miler.

The Kapgarde gelding travelled best in the lead down to the second last and was asked to go about his business before the final fence. Master McShee finished with a rattle on the run-in but couldn't peg back Sizing Pottsie who recorded a three-parts-of-a-length success.

Robbie Power:- “He's been a fantastic servant for connections but that ground is vital to him. He's run some disappointing races but I think the majority of them have been down to ground.

“Even yielding to soft ground is no use to him, he has to have proper heavy ground.

“He won the Flyingbolt here as well and it's a place like this that he usually gets heavy ground.

“He did a very good bit of work on Tuesday morning so we knew he had come on from Gowran, which was good.

“I heard the other horse coming but I wasn't stopping going to the line. He does stay further, he stays two-and-a-half and a bit more than that even.”

When it was suggested time might be running out as regards ground he added:- “We've had a very dry winter so hopefully not. You never know.

“He's a good horse, he's just had his issues and the ground is the key to him.”
